Preamble
The Academy of Computer Science is established for the purpose of recognizing alumni for their outstanding professional achievement and success. It is to be an active organization serving as an adviser to the chair, faculty, and students of computer science.
MISSION
Membership is by invitation only. Eligibility requirements include:

START-UP
The Academy was started with a three to five member Executive Committee selected by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and the Chair of the Computer Science Department. The executive committee:
The Academy of Computer Science is established for the purpose of recognizing alumni for their outstanding professional achievement and success. It is to be an active organization serving as an adviser to the chair, faculty, and students of computer science.
MISSION
- To recognize computer science graduates who have provided outstanding leadership, have attained significant levels of professional achievement and success, and who demonstrate high standards of personal and professional integrity.
- To provide advisory guidance and counsel at the call of the Chair of Computer Science, faculty, or students of the department.
- To strengthen the dedication and understanding of students to computer science through personal and professional example.
- To partner with the Computer Science Department to develop, advance, and sponsor key programs of both the Academy and the department by identifying, securing, and providing financial support.
Membership is by invitation only. Eligibility requirements include:
- Nomination by a current academy member, or a current or emeritus faculty member.
- Status as a graduate of Missouri University of Science and Technology (formerly known as MSM-UMR) granted at least 10 years prior to induction. In addition, the person shall have experience in computer science or in a computer science related field. (By a vote of the membership, this requirement may be relaxed to include members with less than 10 years experience prior to induction; however, the majority of the membership must each possess at least 10 years of experience prior to induction. The by-laws also allow for limited honorary memberships.)
- Demonstration of notable leadership and/or professional achievement and success, and admirable personal and professional integrity.
- Commitment to support and enhance the Missouri S&T Computer Science Program.
- Attendance at the induction ceremony.
MEMBERSHIP EXPECTATIONS
- Commitment to support and enhance the Computer Science Department and thereby, its graduates.
- Availability to the Chair of Computer Science, faculty, staff, students, and academy members at annual meetings and on select occasions.
- Willingness and availability to provide external insight and advice on current research and educational issues as they relate to the private and public sectors.
START-UP
The Academy was started with a three to five member Executive Committee selected by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and the Chair of the Computer Science Department. The executive committee:
- Selected a chair and secretary of the Executive Committee from its membership,
- Approved a statement of agreement and understanding between the Academy and the Computer Science Department,
- Wrote and approved the by-laws for the Academy,
- Served as the first nominating and membership committees of the Academy (including nomination of the President), and
- Inducted those nominees accepted as members.
